1. How do I obtain a prescription?
In 1989 the Optical Act was enacted by the British
Government. Under this Act any citizen of the United Kingdom is legally entitled
to a prescription from any optician.
The prescription for prescription glasses does incur a charge which is payable to the optician. However, certain people are exempt from any charges associated with the Eye Test. This includes the young (under 16 years) and elderly (over 60 years) and other citizens who fall into certain other categories. Your optician can advise you if you are entitled to a free eye test.
Traditionally opticians that provided the prescriptions also supplied the frames and lenses. Customers were often not made aware of their rights and were therefore unaware that they buy their prescription glasses elsewhere.
Opticians have a reputation for earning very high profit margins on the glasses that they prescribe. It is now no longer necessary to feed the opticians their excessive profits, you can buy your quality prescription frames and lenses on line from Ashanti Eyewear. Just send us your glasses prescription and save over 70% on High Street prices.
